Profile
Charlton Somerville Consultants was formed in
1981 by Martin Somerville to continue his freelance Marine & Offshore Design
Draughting career which had evolved since 1973 when he left Swan Hunters Shipbuilders,
having served a Shipbuilding Design Office Apprenticeship.
After traveling
throughout the United States, Canada, Korea and Norway, working in
various Shipbuilding & Offshore Design Companies and fabrication yards, he felt a
permanent base was required and returned to Tyneside.
Since the formation of the company, Martin has continued to work globally with projects
taking him through Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as many locations in the
UK, accumulating a total of 23 years freelance design draughting experience.
The vast knowledge of manual draughting has been enhanced by the acquisition of AutoCAD
work stations which are also available on-site, providing fabrication drawings, conceptual
designs, general arrangements, fire and safety plans, and as built drawings for a variety
of International Clients.
Presently in Scandinavia working on the Stena HSS High Speed Catamaran Ferry project,
recent assignments have involved the management, design and development of an Offshore
Platform Escape System to provide safe access for personnel to sea level for rescue,
followed by the conversion of offshore supply vessels for standby/rescue use.
Mobile phone and fax lines ensure a prompt response to all enquiries and requests for
further information on availability and past activities of Charlton Somerville
